HISTORY

SDNARI was founded in the year 2009.   The Founding officers were Sneh Bansal, Uma Lakshman, Anu Shekar, Janaki Ravinuthala, Shekar Ravinuthala. Uma Lakshman was elected President from the year 2009 - 2010. At the same period, Sneh Bansal served as the Treasurer, Payal Yagnik as the Secreatary, Janaki Ravinuthala was in charge of publicity, Shekar Ravinuthala served as the webmaster and Simarjeet Sahota served as the Outreach Consultant.  During this Period of time SDNARI bootstrapped itself by opening it up to the community and became more actively involved in the community. The First Ever Play "Ray of Light" written and directed by an Indian Woman in San Diego, Payal Yagnik, was launched in Oct, 2010 during their annual Charity Drive Event. The organization also initiated the process towards obtaining the 501-c3 status. The slogan "Stay HISH (Healthy, Informed, Safe, Happy)" became the SDNARI slogan.  

Dr. Divya Kakaiya is the incoming President for the year 2011. Her main goal is to revive SDNARI and have members committing to take on a more active role. Uma Lakshman will serve as the Secretary and Francoise Shah will serve as the Treasurer for the same period.  

 The inspiration for this Organization was derived from SAWI, founded in 1997 by the late Dr. Manju Goel. The organization was inaugurated by Indian ambassador Shyamala Cowsik in Rancho Santa Fe, CA. SDNari is now located in San Diego, CA.The founding committee members Dr. Divya Kakaiya, Dr. Huma Ahmed Ghosh, Neelu Bhardwaj, Anasuya Pyne, Rajshree Sunderaj, Dr. Meera Kumar, Meera Mehta, Susheela Narayan. After Dr. Manju Goel passed away, Sneh Bansal kept the organization active by holding useful events on a  periodic basis and always on the lookout for new members and volunteers.
